Looking
back.

Despite
having been born to a yellow-eyed, thus faulty, bitch (yet AKC ROM)
and having long-coated siblings, coming into this world with a small
hernia, a dermoid cyst on his eye and kidneys that would eventually
fail him, Dakota was a great dog.
We
live and learn. If I had known anything about German Shepherd
Dogs, other than that I wanted one, I wouldn't have gone to that
kennel in Bogart, Georgia and I wouldn't have taken him. If I
hadn't, I would have missed learning to love bi-colors and blacks
and this bi-color in particular. It's a notion of mine that,
just as the gene that carries the color white is often linked to
deafness in dogs, the gene that carries the black coat color is
linked to the best temperament in my breed. I haven't been
proven wrong yet by any of my guys.
