The hardest thing you'll ever have to deal with...

Letting Go
Ed Frawley's 'Tribute to a Friend' is not particularly pretty.  It's raw and filled with the pain of watching that 'one dog' get old and ill and kidding yourself that it isn't time yet to face that final, terrible decision to put your best friend to sleep.  If you've ever had to do it, you'll understand how hard that decision is to make and remember your own pain and maybe your own mistakes when you read what he has to say about deciding when to let go.
Sometimes, letting go brings more bitterness than peace.
When your best friend dies young, the victim of the ignorance of vets,  or a genetic disease you never knew your chosen breed carried since no one, even the breeder, warned you of it, I don't know that it's possible ever to get over the heartbreak.

Sometimes, it's bittersweet when you walk your old friend, not so far any more or so fast, just you and her enjoying it while it lasts, ambling along in the easy acceptance of old age.
