Winnie

Winnie killing her dinosaur

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

Winnie is the love of our lives.  She's a child, a friend, a defender and an angel without wings.

Winnie was 6 weeks old when she came to live with us.  By far, that's way too young for a puppy to leave her mother but Winnie adjusted very well and we could blink she was a full fledged member of the family.

When Winnie was only 6 months old, it was suspected that she suffered from Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD).  Later, this diagnosis was confirmed.  We thought long and hard about surgical correction but instead opted for a "wait and see" approach since we felt that at any point we could still proceed with surgery.  What I didn't realise at the time was that Winnie's diet was the main contributor towards the disease as her parents and grandparents were both certified with good hips.  Winnie is a very big Chow and she was grown too quickly on a diet of puppy growth food and home cooking.  Had I known then what I know today, Winnie would have been raw fed from the beginning.  (For more information on raw feeding, please see www.k9rawdiet.com).

At the age of 12, Winnie is in great shape.  In addition to the raw diet, Winnie continues to take a host of supplements to support joint health and, touch wood, has not needed the use of allopathic treatment.  Winnie is active, happy, playful and is the only Chow I know that still continues to play with her toys at this stage in life.

However, another healing crisis recently surfaced.  You see, because of our travels and country restrictions regarding vaccination, Winnie has been over-vaccinated for rabies.  VERY over-vaccinated.  Based on what I have learned about the dangers of vaccines, I am thoroughly convinced that Winnie has suffered from a type 1 hypersensitivity reaction as well as personality change due to encephalitis.  Believe me, I was very skeptical about the dangers of vaccines since every vet and every human doctor I have ever visited have all told me that vaccines are perfectly safe, can do no harm and that reactions are both immediate and extremely rare.  Oh how wrong they are!!!  Winnie has suffered from allergic bumps on her scalp as well as fear aggression and thunderstorm phobia which, I am very happy to report, are being successfully resolved through the use of homeopathy.  If anyone reading this story doubts the dangers of vaccines or the use of homeopathy, I would seriously like you to start doing some reading.  The literature is out there, it's just not in the forefront - YET.  (Please visit the vaccine and homeopathy link at www.k9rawdiet.com/rawlinks.htm.  If you would like to know who I personally use for classical homeopathic services, please email me directly.)

So there's Winnie.  Is she a darling or what?  Winnie has definitely led us through some challenges in life but, God bless her, it's because of her that we were shown the inherent power of the body to heal itself when properly supported.  Sometimes things come full circle and, thankfully, we now have our puppy back.
